gilead medical park croppedThe latest phase of an $8.5 million medical park in Huntersville is now open. Gilead Medical Park has added 25,000 square feet of Class A medical-office space.

Novant Health Gilead Road Pediatrics & Internal Medicine is the first tenant, with an oral surgeon and pediatric dentist expected to follow suit. “We’re so close to the hospital, so close to the Huntersville area. It’s a great location,” says Dr. Adam Shapiro. He co-developed that medical park with Charles Knox of The Knox Group. Shapiro’s practice Foot & Ankle Associates is located in the medical park. He also has locations in Mooresville and the University area. “It just seemed like the right opportunity — not only for my practice — but for other medical specialties,” Shapiro says. “We’re really looking to keep it medical so there’s a lot of synergies.”

The multiphase project includes a 17,000-square-foot building constructed in 2012. Plans also call for an additional 6,000-square-foot medical office building in the next 18 months. Knox notes there’s a lack of new Class A medical space in the market. It’s also in a prime location near Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. “We’re finding tenants and buyers that are in the area and need to grow or are looking for second locations,” he adds.

Reed Griffith with Brackett Flagship Properties is handling leasing for the project.
